Scam Alert - Collecting Bar Dues over the Phone

The North Carolina State Bar has received a report of a fraudulent attempt to collect North Carolina bar dues over the phone. The caller either pretended to be from the North Carolina State Bar or the North Carolina Bar Association. The caller offered the lawyer a discount on dues if the lawyer renewed his membership over the phone via credit card. The North Carolina State Bar does not solicit dues payments by phone. If you receive what you think may be a fraudulent phone call purporting to be from the North Carolina State Bar, hang up and call (919) 828-4620.
