Review of Law Firm Websites
Lawyer and law firm websites must comply with the provisions of the North Carolina Rules of Professional Conduct that address legal advertising. (See Rules 7.1 through 7.4.) There is no requirement that the State Bar review a website before it is launched. As with all lawyer advertising, ethics counsel will review questionable language and images on a lawyer’s websites upon request. However, ethics counsel will not review entire contents of a website. Ethics counsel will respond to specific questions involving language or images to be included on a website. Lawyers should review the rules on advertising and limit inquiries to questionable language or images. To make such an inquiry, please contact Nichole McLaughlin.
The North Carolina State Bar has recently launched a redesigned website to improve accessibility and navigation. If you experience any broken links or access errors, you may submit website feedback at: webmaster@ncbar.gov
