What is the NC State Bar Foundation?

Foundation - Ribbon CuttingThe North Carolina State Bar Foundation was formed in 2011 as an independent, 501(c)(3) corporation to support construction of the State Bar’s new headquarters building in downtown Raleigh. The purpose of the foundation is to provide long-term financial support for the North Carolina State Bar in its mission to regulate the practice of law in the public interest and maintenance of its headquarters building. Gifts to the foundation are an effective way for lawyers and others to express their support for the State Bar now and for future generations.

The State Bar Foundation Board of Trustees manages the assets of the foundation. The trustees have years of experience in the management of gifts to the State Bar. The foundation follows a conservative investment policy which specifies investment standards and asset mix. The trustees engage financial advisors to assist in the investment of the foundation's assets.

What are some of the anticipated uses of foundation earnings?

  • Maintenance, improvements, furnishings, and renovations for the State Bar's headquarters building

  • Financial support for critical programs of the NC State Bar including:

    • The Lawyers Assistance Program (LAP)

    • NC IOLTA

    • The Attorney Client Assistance Program (ACAP)

    • The Client Security Fund
