Purpose of Job: To provide accurate, timely legal support
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Take initiative to learn and understand the various functions of the NC State Bar
- Provide support to and facilitate the function of the Ethics Committee and other committees and subcommittees as assigned, including but not limited to: scheduling and attending meetings (in-person and videoconference); preparing agendas and supporting materials including meeting minutes; taking notes during meetings and facilitating action items; and communicating with relevant parties as needed
- Provide back-up support to the deputy clerk of the Disciplinary Hearing Commission in the deputy clerk’s absence or work with the deputy clerk to facilitate the operation of the Disciplinary Hearing Commission, including but not limited to: facilitating the filing of pleadings with the commission; organizing and preserving exhibits admitted into evidence during a hearing; attending disciplinary proceedings; communicating with parties and commission members; scheduling hearings; coordinating travel arrangements; preparing courtroom for hearing; assist in planning and attend DHC workshops
- Assist with administrative tasks and draft correspondence to the public and members of the Bar
- Assist in gathering, reviewing, and responding to document requests under the public records laws
- Assist in tracking deadlines and ensuring compliance with public records and rule amendment processes
- Organize, gather, respond to correspondence, and track registrations and renewals for the pre-paid legal service program
Non-Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research on Westlaw Edge or Lexis Advance and the Administrative Office of the Courts – Criminal and Civil websites
- Perform criminal record checks
- Assist with research projects
- Other duties as assigned
Desired Education, Experience, and Skills:
- High School diploma; college degree preferred
- Litigation paralegal experience preferred; paralegal certificate desired
- Knowledge of court system and procedures, legal terminology, and civil procedure
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills along with excellent proofreading and formatting skills
- Desire to work as part of a team
- Ability to review a variety of written material and summarize key information accurately and efficiently
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, work well under deadlines, and multi-task
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
Working Conditions:
- Position is non-exempt in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act
- Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday, one hour lunch break
- This position is primarily hybrid with the flexibility to work from home twice per week. However, in-office presence will be required for hearings, trials, and other times.

Hiring Range: $52,000 - $62,000
