The North Carolina State Bar is seeking an Investigator to support the Office of Counsel. This role involves assisting staff attorneys with investigative requests related to the grievance process and disciplinary litigation. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Plan and conduct investigations concerning allegations of professional misconduct and unauthorized practice of law 

  • Identify, locate, and interview complainants, respondent attorneys, and witnesses 

  • Gather and analyze supporting documentation and other evidence 

  • Conduct forensic audits 

  • Prepare detailed written reports of findings 

  • Prepare for and testify as a fact witness in proceedings before the Disciplinary Hearing Commission and before state and federal courts 

  • Identify and locate claimants to funds remaining in trust accounts 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Undergraduate degree 

  • Previous investigative or law enforcement experience 

  • Experience working with victims/survivors of sexual assault, sexual abuse, or other sexual offenses

  • Ability to analyze financial records 

  • Ability to work independently and formulate investigative strategies 

  • Experience gathering, analyzing, and preserving evidence, including conducting and documenting interviews 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Expected hiring range: $60,000 -$68,000 (depending on experience and qualifications)
