Greetings State Bar Members,

During the meeting of the State Bar Council’s Executive Committee on Thursday, July 18, 2024, I officially announced my retirement as executive director effective December 31, 2024. State Bar President Todd Brown has appointed a search committee and, in a subsequent eblast, provides information about the search committee, how the committee will go about its work, and the timeframe for identifying my replacement.

It has been my great honor and pleasure to serve as the executive director of the State Bar for the past five and a half years, and to have served as State Bar ethics counsel for 26 years prior to that. I could not be more grateful for the opportunity my employment has given me to serve the State of North Carolina, the citizens of our great state, and my beloved profession.

I am stepping down at this time for several reasons including the desire to spend more time with my husband and family, and to have an opportunity to explore interests that have been put on hold. My retirement is also motivated by a desire to see the torch of leadership passed to the next generation of lawyers as our profession faces new challenges.

The process for identifying the next executive director will be open and fair and will ensure that the next executive director carries forward the mission of regulating the legal profession in the best interests of the citizens of North Carolina.

My roles at the State Bar enabled me to engage with an untold number of North Carolina lawyers over the years. I remain in awe of the integrity, professionalism, and commitment to service of the vast majority of North Carolina lawyers. Thank you for your collegiality, friendship, and support over the years.

With gratitude,
Alice Neece Mine
