The North Carolina State Bar Council is pleased to announce that its Nominating Committee has nominated current State Bar Assistant Executive Director Peter G. Bolac for election to the office of secretary-treasurer of the State Bar Council. The secretary-treasurer of the council also serves as the executive director of the State Bar. Mr. Bolac was the unanimous recommendation of the council’s Executive Director Search Committee following a nationwide search and interview process. The search committee’s recommendation was conveyed to the council’s Nominating Committee earlier this week and was unanimously endorsed by the committee.
Mr. Bolac will stand for election with other State Bar officers at a meeting of the State Bar Council on October 30, 2024. After election, Mr. Bolac and the other officers will be sworn in by Chief Justice Paul Newby during the council’s annual banquet and swearing-in ceremony on October 31, 2024.
Mr. Bolac joined the State Bar in 2011 as the district bar liaison following his graduation from The University of Memphis School of Law. He has held several significant positions at the State Bar including trust account compliance counsel and legislative liaison (a position he still holds). He has served as assistant executive director since 2018. His broad experience working with numerous departments at the State Bar makes him eminently qualified to serve as executive director.
“I am grateful to the members of the Executive Director Search Committee who worked tirelessly to ensure a fair and deliberate process. A nationwide search led to several excellent candidates and the decision on who to recommend to the Nominating Committee was a difficult one. However, Mr. Bolac was the unanimous choice of the committee after considering his knowledge of the State Bar’s programs and operations, leadership experience, and proven dedication to the regulation of the legal profession in the public interest. This is a pivotal moment for the State Bar with exciting but challenging times ahead. Peter Bolac is the right person to lead the State Bar into the future,” said Marcia Armstrong, immediate past-president of the North Carolina State Bar and the chair of the Executive Director Search Committee.
The State Bar’s current executive director, Alice Mine, who retires at the end of the year, added, “Peter will bring vast administrative experience, organizational insight, and management ability to the position of executive director. We are grateful to the Nominating Committee of council and to the Executive Director Search Committee for selecting Peter for election to this critical role for the regulation of the profession.”
The North Carolina State Bar looks forward to a seamless transition of leadership to Mr. Bolac following his election. The officers and senior management staff are confident in his ability to uphold the agency’s commitment to protecting the public interest.
