Job Title: Investigative clerk

Department: Office of Counsel

Immediate Supervisor: Director of investigations

Positions Supervised: None

Purpose of the Job: To provide administrative and clerical assistance to Office of Counsel personnel

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Input data onto a spreadsheet from bank records, client ledgers, and related documents to reconstruct transactions in fiduciary and trust accounts. 
  • Extracting pertinent information from financial records and client files.
  • Analyzing and generating spreadsheets and reports of financial and other evidence. 
  • Conducting computer research for public record checks and background information.
  • Preparing and assisting Office of Counsel with correspondence.
  • Making and receiving telephone calls, maintaining files, and assisting with evidentiary presentations.

Non-Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assisting as back up to perform duties of other employees when needed, including reception and mail duties.
  • Performing any other task assigned.

Accountability and Authority: The investigative clerk reports to and is directly supervised by the director of investigations and indirectly by the counsel. 

Required Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • High school diploma.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting concepts and software (QuickBooks, FreshBooks, Xero, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience performing mail merges and using Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to learn general computer applications, including database management, and a basic working knowledge of spreadsheet software.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be articulate and use correct grammar and spelling.

Working Conditions:

  • Position is non-exempt in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.
  • Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, one-hour lunch break.
  • Overtime: seldom, paid, or compensatory.
  • Travel: seldom.
