In 2017 there are several appointments to be made to the State Bar's boards and commissions. Anyone interested in being appointed to serve on any of the State Bar’s boards, commissions, or committees should email the State Bar’s Executive Director, Tom Lunsford, at tlunsford@ncbar.gov to express that interest, being sure to attach a current resume.

2017 Appointments 

January Council Meeting

Lawyer Assistance Program Board (3-year terms) – There are three appointments to be made. John A. Bowman is eligible for reappointment. Dr. Joseph P. Jordan and Robert E. Nunley are not eligible for reappointment.

April Council Meeting

American Bar Association Delegates (2-year terms) – There are three appointments to be made. Ronald G. Baker Sr. is eligible for reappointment. M. Keith Kapp and Deyaska Spencer are not eligible for reappointment.

NC Courts Commission (4-year terms) – There is one presidential appointment to be made. Thomas R. West is eligible for reappointment.

Grievance Resolution Board (4-year terms) – There is one appointment to be made by the governor. Wesley W. Barkley is eligible for reappointment. The council makes recommendations to the governor.

(We have not received confirmation that Gerald Beaver has been appointed, although we recommended him to the governor in April 2015)

Disciplinary Hearing Commission (3-year terms) – There are four appointments to be made. David W. Long, Shirley Fulton, and R. Lee Farmer are eligible for reappointment. Joshua W. Willey Jr. is not eligible for reappointment.

July Council Meeting

Board of Legal Specialization (3-year terms) – There are three appointments to be made. Dr. Priscilla P. Taylor (public member), Judge Teresa H. Vincent, and Laura D. Burton (chair) are not eligible for reappointment.

IOLTA Board of Trustees (3-year terms) – There are three appointments to be made.  Elizabeth L. Quick and Sidney S. Eagles Jr. are eligible for reappointment. John B. McMillan (chair) is not eligible for reappointment.

NC Dispute Resolution Commission (3-year terms) - The president must make one appointment to this commission. W. Mark Spence is eligible for reappointment.

October Council Meeting

Client Security Fund Board of Trustees (5-year terms) – There is one appointment to be made. Cecil W. Sewell Jr. is not eligible for reappointment.

Board of Law Examiners (3-year terms) – There are three appointments to be made.  Jaye P. Meyer (chair) and Roger A. Askew are eligible for reappointment. James R. Van Camp is not eligible for reappointment.

Board of Continuing Legal Education (3-year terms) – There are three appointments to be made. J. Dickson Phillips II and Judge Linda McGee are eligible for reappointment. Edward P. Tewkesbury is not eligible for reappointment.

NC LEAF (1-year term) – There is one appointment to be made. William R. Purcell is eligible for reappointment.

State Judicial Council (4-year terms) – There is one appointment to be made. Fred H. Moody Jr. is not eligible for reappointment.

NC Judicial Standards Commission (6-year terms) – There are two appointments to be made. Edward T. Hinson Jr. and Fred H. Moody Jr. are not eligible for reappointment.

Board of Paralegal Certification (3-year terms) – There are three appointments to be made. Charity L. Inglis is eligible for reappointment. Teresa L. Bowling and Howard L. Gum are not eligible for reappointment.

Equal Access to Justice Commission (3-year terms) – There is one presidential recommendation to be made to the chief justice. Nancy B. Norelli’s term ends in January 2018 (term ending date changed by Chief Justice Martin) and is eligible for reappointment. Commission requests that recommendations be provided in October 2017 for the term which begins January 2018.
