The Supreme Court recently approved an amendment to trust accounting Rule 1.15-2 that requires checks drawn on a trust account to be signed by a lawyer or by an employee who is not responsible for performing monthly or quarterly reconciliations.

Recently, lawyers holding NC IOLTA accounts at SunTrust Bank were notified of changes to the bank’s policy on service charges on IOLTA accounts. The changes reported by SunTrust are in compliance with IOLTA trust account rules, (rule .1316(e)).

A new phishing scam targeting various bars and bar members around the country with deceptive emails has the potential to corrupt computer files. The fraudulent emails pretend to be sent by a state bar or a state bar association.
